INDIA_SENSED

INDIA_SENSED: Craft and Collaboration in the Digital Age, is a global travel course that offers a unique opportunity to experience craft practiced at the highest level in Jaipur, India.

While in India, we went to four different artisan workshops where we got to observe and learn about each of the processes. From there we can choose which craft to collaborate with in making a project together. The two crafts I chose was Lehariya, a resist dyeing technique and Bagru block printing/Dabu mud resist block printing.

This installation was inspired by wooden scaffolding that were on the buildings. I was interested in how they created layers, shadows, and repeat. It is this temporary space in time that give a support system. There are moments of repetition in the grid that is formed, but sometimes moments of disruption when it is worked on.
