MIT/RISD CSP: Acoustx

In collaboration with Cindy Yang :)

Acoustx, is an innovative textile-based musical instrument. There are a lot of existing projects about empowering the fabric with music interaction capability. In recent years, more and more researchers begn to explore how to integrate all the circuits during the knitting and weaving process. We wanted to create an interactive fabric that utilizes visual and touch to create an auditory experience to be able to tap into the creativity and musical abilities of people who even don’t have any muscial background.

Process:

One ESP32 can actially fit all the wires however, for the fabric, if adding a long wire to the conductive fiber before connecting to the circuit, it will create a high risk of connection fails.

Instead, we seperate the control into two directions and use two ESP32 to control the whole fabric. And it was also easy for us to debug and test it.
